Recreational Gymnastics Coach

Full Time, 16+ Hours Per Week5 Days Per Week (Including Sunday) - £8-16ph

Essential In Gymnasium Responsibilities:

Upon successful application to this role, here are some of the essential in gymnasium responsibilities that you can look forward to doing as a recreational 2PRU Gymnastics Club coach:

  • Ability to identify and minimise live risks associated with gymnastics in regards to skills, activities and their respective set ups, in addition to being vigilant with the safety of fellow coaches and their gymnasts.

  • Trustworthy with opening and locking the gymnasium.

  • Assist with the setting up and dismantling of gymnastics equipment whilst ensuring correct storage of portable equipment.

  • Record any faults with any equipment and consider the safety of everyone in the facility.

  • Whilst welcoming gymnasts and their grown ups into the gymnasium be confident in building and strengthening rapports.

  • Introduce each gymnastics activity and collaborate with fellow coaches to deliver engaging and inclusive gymnastics classes to gymnasts of all ages;

    • Lead a warm up and stretch up to a maximum of 16 gymnasts.

    • Coach and progress multiple groups of 8 children across various gymnastics apparatus, with a primary focus on recreational gymnastics while incorporating elements of freestyle, acro, and display.

    • Provide equal support to all actively coaching coaches. 

    • Reflect upon each gymnastics session and feedback to all gymnasts to highlight any gymnastics and non- gymnastics excellence.

  • Capable of following a plan whilst progressing, regressing and adapting activities based on personal expertise and the needs of the gymnasts.

  • Able to support children that need assistance;

    • Manually

    • Mechanically

    • Verbally 

    • Visually

  • Able to mentor and offer feedback to fellow coaches and youth leaders.

  • Confident with various class control methods to use with a range of age groups.

  • Inspire a love for gymnastics and encourage a balanced and healthy active lifestyle among all gymnasts.

  • Engage with other gymnastics disciplines in addition to recreational gymnastics sessions, e.g. Pre School, Display, Adults and SEND sessions.

  • Work in the wider community, for example delivering gymnastics sessions at local schools.

Upon successful application to this role, here are some of the essential out of gymnasium responsibilities that you can look forward to doing as a recreational 2PRU Gymnastics Club coach:

  • Create innovative, engaging and new lesson plans suitable for all ages and abilities.

  • Ability to identify and minimise pre determined risks associated with gymnastics in regards to skills, activities and their respective set ups.

  • Contribute to the development of our coaching syllabus and vocally engage in coaching workshops to enhance teaching methods.

  • Willingness to learn and develop club administration tasks, for example;

    • Managing registers.

    • Managing payments.

    • Gaining feedback.

    • Ensuring valid insurance.

    • Enrolment process.

    • Answering our club telephone

  • Ensure staff Health, Wellbeing and Morale by;

    • Being a positive role model.

    • Listen to all members of the team.

    • Offering advice.

    • Being flexible and understanding.

    • Liaise regularly with the Safeguard and Welfare Team.

    • Liaise regularly with Harrison Prudames and Reuben Prudames.

  • Engage positively on our social media platforms.

  • Clean the gymnasium and the facility to a high standard.

  • Manage stock levels of medical equipment and club merchandise.

  • Confident in upholding and promoting 2PRU Gymnastics Club’s Policies and Procedures & Code of Conduct.

Personality Traits:

Below are some key personality traits that a 2PRU Gymnastics Club coach should aim to develop and master. We do not ask for our newest coaches to have all of these personality traits, however if you already have a wide range of them you are a near perfect candidate for our recreational coaching role.

  • Openness to receiving both positive and constructive feedback on coaching techniques with a willingness to seek help or guidance from other coaches when needed.

  • Skilled in building an individual rapport with each gymnast while fostering a sense of group unity.

  • Patience and understanding when working with children of different ages and with children who may progress at different rates.

  • Demonstrate responsibility, resilience, and reflection in all coaching approaches.

  • Effective communication skills using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic coaching methods.

  • Strong team working skills including communication, active listening, and collaboration with everyone involved at our gymnastics club including: fellow coaches, the Safeguarding and Welfare team, youth leaders & parents and guardians.

  • Self-motivation, pro activity, punctuality, and excellent time management skills.

  • Consistent use of appropriate positioning during coaching sessions by avoiding sitting, leaning, standing still or having your back to a child.

  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation, sharing concerns and ideas with lead coaches and actively participating in coaching workshops.

  • Confidence in leading tasks, delegating responsibilities, and understanding your current coaching ability.

  • Adaptability to working with both limited and extended time frames.

  • Uphold the highest level of professionalism both inside and outside of the gymnasium.

  • Project an approachable and considerate manner for everyone involved in our gymnastics club including; gymnasts and their grown ups, fellow coaches, the Safeguarding and Welfare Team, Youth Leaders and club visitors.

  • Showcase yourself as a role model and lead by example.

  • Internally motivated and able to work collaboratively to set goals for 2PRU Gymnastics Club.

  • Confident with decision making skills and is headstrong when needing further guidance.


 

Essential Qualifications for Paid Roles:

To be successful in this application the following credentials are required:

  • Recognised Level 2 qualification in Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), or General Gymnastics (GG).

  • Provide an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check upon our request. Upon successful application to a paid coaching role the cost of the enhanced DBS will be reimbursed.

  • Hold an active recognisable "Safeguarding and Welfare" qualification or be enrolled by 2PRU Gymnastics Club onto a recognisable safeguarding and welfare course upon successful job application.

Please note if you only hold a recognised Level 1 gymnastics coaching qualification you may still be considered for this coaching role given that you show hard work, enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to work towards obtaining a recognised Level 2 gymnastics qualification.

Desirable Qualifications & Experiences:

To be successful in this application the following credentials are not required, however holding the following credentials will provide you with greater opportunities at our gymnastics club:

  • Recognised Level 3 or higher qualification in WAG, MAG, or GG.

  • Additional gymnastics coaching qualifications that include but are not limited to;

    • Pre School

    • Freestyle

    • Acro

  • Background as a gymnast.

  • Previous sports coaching experience, preferably in gymnastics.

  • Prior experience working with children.

  • Basic first aid trained.

  • Any other recognisable and relevant qualifications.
