First Aid

Last Updated: 01/07/2023

First Aid Training: Considering the nature of our sport and the potential for injuries, all employees at 2PRU Gymnastics Club are required to undergo basic first aid training. This ensures that our staff members are adequately equipped to provide initial medical assistance when needed.

Reporting Illness or Injury: Participants should immediately inform their coach if they feel unwell or sustain an injury during their session. Timely reporting enables coaches to take appropriate action and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected individual.

Handling Injuries Before Class: If a child is injured before their scheduled class, they must immediately inform their coach. The head coach will take appropriate measures to ensure your child's coach is informed about any existing injuries and or illnesses in order for them to make any necessary adaptations to your child's training session.

On-Site First Aid Box: A fully stocked first aid box will be available on-site at all times. This ensures that immediate first aid can be administered by a head coach in case of injuries or medical emergencies.

Defibrillator: To enhance safety measures, we have access to a nearby defibrillator that will be available to use at the facility. Defibrillators must only be used by a head coach.

Medical Info and Emergency Contact Details: With parental consent, each gymnast’s medical information will be documented confidentially and stored securely on our online portal.

Medical Equipment: Parents or guardians of children with medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes or allergies are required to ensure that their child comes to their gymnastics class with the required medical equipment and have their necessary medications, such as epi pens or inhalers, available at the club and in good working condition as well as being in date. In our purpose built facilities, for ease of use and accessibility we can offer storage of personalised medication to ensure gymnasts get their treatment as quickly as possible. However we do understand that medication is expensive and is not accessible in large quantities, and you will most likely have medication for home, school and travel use. Therefore if you do not wish for us to store medication it is vital that yourself or your child brings their medication to each and every session.

Regular Update of Contact and Medical Details: Parents or guardians are responsible for regularly updating their child's contact and medical details in the club's records. This information is crucial for providing quick and appropriate care during emergencies. Parents or guardians must inform the club of any changes to a child's details in order for us as a club to avoid storing out of date information.

Emergency Contact and 999 Calls: In extreme circumstances where immediate medical attention is required, the head coach may contact emergency services (e.g. 999) before notifying the child's emergency contact. This decision is at the coach's discretion and is made in the best interest of safeguarding the gymnasts overall health and well-being.

Ongoing Risk Assessments: To minimise the likelihood of accidents and injuries, the club conducts thorough and regular risk assessments and risk checks.

By implementing this comprehensive first aid policy, we prioritise the well-being and safety of all participants at 2PRU Gymnastics Club, and we aim to respond effectively to medical emergencies and incidents requiring first aid assistance.
